The Rabindra Maitree University (RMU) in Kushtia was initially proposed in 2011 to the Ministry of Education as “Legend Trust University.” The proposed campus was formally inspected by a two-member committee of the University Grants Commission, led by Professor Dr. Atful Hye Shible, which submitted a highly positive report recommending its approval. However, despite this favorable evaluation, the proposal faced an unexpected delay. After a prolonged period of four years, the institution was finally granted approval in 2015 under the name Rabindra Maitree University (RMU) and formally starting its academic journey in 2017.
